This Powerhouse Theater summer season at Vassar College features another superb lineup of imaginative and insightful plays, workshops and works-in-progress. For nearly 40 years, Powerhouse has been a launching pad for emerging artists and their groundbreaking works. In fact, the 2016 Tony Award winners for Best Play and Best Musical — Stephen Karam’s "The Humans" and Lin Manuel Miranda’s "Hamilton" — both trace their roots to Powerhouse. Perhaps one of this year's productions will be the next big smash!

"It is Right to Rebel!"

• “It is Right to Rebel!” tells the story of Jiang Qing, who was Mao Zedong's wife for 38 years and eventually one of the most powerful women in the Communist world. However, when Mao dies without naming her his successor, she quickly falls from power and is put on trial for treason. This is a play about theatre as politics, politics as theatre, and revenge as revolution.
